In Ephesians 6:10 Paul says, “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.”
This is the opening statement in the section of Scripture which talks about the Armor of God. Yet it is not only an introductory statement; it is also a battle cry.
It might help to read it this way:
Be STRONG in the LORD, and the POWER of HIS MIGHT!!!!
It is much like the battle cry of ancient warriors as they charged into the enemy forces with swords swinging. This opening statement by Paul is like the the cry of Gideon’s army as they smashed the clay jars which hid their torches and blew into their trumpets: “The Sword of the Lord and of Gideon!”
If you have seen almost any movie depicting a battle scene from the Middle ages or before, you will recall that as the opposing armies close in on each other, both sides issue a rousing battle cry.
This opening statement by Paul is the rousing battle cry. It is to prepare the Christian soldier for war, to get our hearts pumping fast, and the adrenaline flowing.
And it is not just any old battle cry. It focuses on where our strength and victory comes from. As we engage in spiritual warfare, our strength comes from the Lord, and we fight not in our own power, but in the power of His might.
