Love is one of the key indicators in the life of a Christian that the life of God is active within them. Loving others is not necessarily indicative that someone has eternal life, for all people can show forms of love to others. But genuine, sacrificial, service-oriented love for others comes from God and points people to God.
A Scripture on Love which shows that the love of God is manifested in those who show love to one another is 1 John 4:7.
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
John invites his readers to show love to one another. If we have God living in and through us, then the love of God should manifest itself through our words and our actions toward other people. Far too often, Christians are known for their hate and criticism of others. But this is not the characteristics of God.
Instead, God is love, and love is of God. If we want to show others what God is like, we must focus on loving them. When we love others, the love of God is pouring through our lives to others. This is one of the primary ways the love of God reveals itself to them.
The Scriptures reveal a lot about love, but none of it matters if we do not show love to others through our words and actions. It is only when we love others that we show that we know God. If we are not loving others, then this indicates that we think that God does not love others. And if we think this, then we do not know God.
If we know God, then we know that God is love, and therefore, we will show love to other people, just as God shows love to all mankind.
