When facing depression, one of the best sources of comfort and encouragement is the promises of God in Scripture. The Scriptures are full of Bible verses which help those dealing with depression. Promises that God will be with us and help us in times when all of life goes wrong.
One great Scripture on Depression which provides a great promise of God for us is Isaiah 41:10.
Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
One of the causes of depression is fear. Fear of the future. Fear for our relationships. Fear about the consequences of past mistakes. Fear for our jobs. Fear about the economy. Fear for our children. We feel that these fears are too overwhelming, and that life is getting to be too much for us. So we get depressed.
But it need not be this way. God says, “Fear not!” Why not? Because He is with us. All of our problems and worries are insignificant compared to his power, might, and love. No matter what we are facing, He will strengthen us. He will help us. He will uphold us.
And we know that when God leads and guides and directs us, we will be led into good and righteous ways, even when it does not seem like it. Sometimes God leads us through times of darkness and despair so we can learn to rely and depend more on Him in such times.
If you are facing depression, let the truths of Scripture be a source of comfort, joy, and encouragement in these times.
