World governments are usually quite a mess. It really does not matter if the government is a monarchy, democracy, dictatorship, or one of the other forms of government, corruption and inequality can be found in nearly all departments.

Certainly, there are some forms of government which tend to give greater voice to the people, and allow greater freedoms and human rights, and one of the greatest forms of government so far is a democracy. But democracies are far from perfect.

The Perfect Government

The perfect government would actually be a dictatorship, but only if the single ruler was wise, kind, benevolent, merciful, generous, peaceful, patient, and loving. And such a human does not exist, except in the person of Jesus Christ.

Which is why, whether we recognize it or not, the world waits in hopeful expectation for the return of Jesus, when He will rule and reign over the entire earth, as the Lord and King of all.

King Jesus – Isaiah 9:6

The humble birth of Jesus was intentionally planned by God to show how Jesus would rule and reign. His rule is not one to be feared, but to be longed for. One Scripture on the birth of Jesus which reveals what kind of world ruler Jesus will be is Isaiah 9:6:

For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

When Jesus rules and reigns, He will be a “Wonderful Counselor”, making wise decisions for the good of all. “Mighty God” might be better translated “Mighty is God” or “Mighty of God.” Jesus, of course, is God incarnate, but this verse does not teach it. Instead, it is teaching that His might and power as ruler comes from God. Similarly, “Everlasting Father” does not mean Jesus is God the Father. It means that Jesus is the benevolent father of all people, watching over them and caring for them as His own children. Finally, He is the “Prince of Peace.” Though many governments promise peace, true peace comes only through Jesus Christ.

And for these reasons we cry, “Maranatha!” Come, Lord Jesus!
