Lots of people, including many Christians, claim to love God, but spend most of their time and actions showing hate for other people. There are even many pastors and ministry leaders who teach that God hates certain types of people, or certain people groups.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Such ideas do not come from God or the Scriptures, but are lies from Satan. Hate is not of God, but is of the devil.
One Scripture on Love which shows that love and hate do not mix, and that love is of God and hate is of the devil is 1 John 4:20.
If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
The Scripture could not be more clear. If we claim to love God, but we do not love others, then we do not love God either. If we claim to love God, but hate our brother, then we are a liar, and do not love God.
Some have tried to say that John only wants us to love our “Christian brethren” and we can feel free to hate everyone else.
