Many people are in abusive relationships. Sometimes we are the ones who abuse others, and sometimes we are the ones who get abused. Frequently, those who are abusive have been abused. Also, there are different types of abuse: physical abuse, verbal abuse, emotional abuse, spiritual abuse, and sexual abuse are some of the most common. But no matter what kind of abuse is being considered, and no matter who is abusing others, it is wrong and does not please God. Scripture has numerous passages which condemn abuse.

The LORD tests the righteous, But the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates.
2 Samuel 22:28
You will save the humble people; But Your eyes are on the haughty, that You may bring them down.
Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.
In the same day I will punish All those who leap over the threshold, Who fill their masters’ houses with violence and deceit.
Blessings are on the head of the righteous, But violence covers the mouth of the wicked
You have wearied the LORD with your words; Yet you say, “In what way have we wearied Him?” In that you say, “Everyone who does evil Is good in the sight of the LORD, And He delights in them,” Or, “Where is the God of justice?”
So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
You have heard that it was said to those of old, “You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.” But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, “Raca!” shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, “You fool!” shall be in danger of hell fire.
Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.
He will redeem their life from oppression and violence; And precious shall be their blood in His sight.
The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, A refuge in times of trouble.
Who executes justice for the oppressed, Who gives food to the hungry. The LORD gives freedom to the prisoners
I know that the LORD will maintain The cause of the afflicted, And justice for the poor.
